John Carlile joined the RAAF as a Radio Apprentice in 1958 and retired as a FSGT Radio Technician (Ground) in February 1979.

In 1986, John Carlile was President of the Bundaberg Air Force Social committee with John Wilson as its Secretary. Both recognised the need for something more substantiive than the only function organised by the Social Committee, the Annual Re-union Dinner.

The Bundaberg and District Branch of the Queensland Division, RAAF Association was formed on the 18th February 1987 with John as Inaugural President and John Wilson, Branch Secretary. John Carlile remained as Branch President for fifteen years before retiring to concentrate on Division duties.
